GENERAL
Gnee P20 and 2738 types of steels are the most used for the manufacture of plastic injection molds in general. Provided that the beneficiary state (quenching and tempering) has excellent mechanical properties. Especially important for this segment it has a good polishability and response to texturing. The fabrication of large molded parts can be easily accomplished due to its high machinability and uniform hardness over large cross sections. For thicknesses greater than 400 mm, use is indicated W. Nr. 1.2738, mainly for stainless steel Gnee P20SM 2738.O is available from a Gnee variation specially developed for small molds, in particular with a maximum thickness of 200 mm.
Chemical composition - C (0.36) • Si (0.50) • Mn (0.80) • Cr (1.70) • Mo (0.40) • Ni (-)
Supply conditions - with an approximate hardness of 250 HB . Provided in the quenched and tempered state with a hardness between 28-34 HRC.
APPLICATIONS
It is used in plastic injection molds of all kinds, but with low to medium abrasiveness. Pads for hitting training. They should never be used in chlorinated plastic molds. In certain circumstances, it can be used for casting non-ferrous alloys.
HEAT TREATMENT
Stress relief: In complex shaped tools, with removal of heterogeneous material in roughing, sudden change of sections, etc., stress relief treatment must be carried out to minimize dimensional variations. The treatment should be done at a temperature of 550 ° C for at least 1 hour for every 25 mm and then cool the air calmly.
Tempering: When heating during austenitization to perform preheating to ensure temperature uniformity and minimize distortion. Preheat to a temperature of 550 ° C Austenize temperature between 815 - 870 ° C. Heat for 1 hour for every 25mm of thickness and add an additional 1 hour for every 25mm. Cool preferably in an oil preheated to around 70 ° C with stirring.
Tempering: It should be done immediately after tempering when the temperature reaches approximately 70ºC. The tempering temperature should be selected according to the specified hardness. By this preferably tempering at about 600 ° C the steel temperature to achieve the desired level of hardness, usually between 28 to 33 HRC. To do this, use the tempering curve below. Maintain the tempering temperature for at least 1 hour for every 25 mm of thickness and used at least twice the temper. The use of a minimum time of 2 hours and is kept at a minimum of two warm.
Cooling to 850 ° C. Double tempering for 2 hours each.
Nitriding: Steel can be nitrided to increase the wear resistance of surface hardening. Nitriding may or may not have white layer formation, however the presence of the white layer will impart better wear resistance.
The maximum hardness after nitriding is in the range of 900-1000HV, depending on the initial hardness after processing.
Supply meters:
Gnee P20SM = maximum thickness of 200 mm.
Gnee P20 = maximum specified thickness 420 mm.
Gnee 2738 = thickness over 400 mm.
